FOREST (2021)

multi-percussion solo + video and electronics

FOREST is part of a collaborative project to create cinematic musical experiences for young percussionists.

This piece uses percussive sound painting to explore a day in the forest: sunrise, dew on the morning leaves, animals playing, moss growing, and the serene afternoon and sunset through the trees. With FOREST, young performers will develop their skills switching between several instruments and playing multiple instruments at the same time. This piece also gives them an opportunity to play snare drum in new ways, read both treble and bass clef marimba, and develop new techniques on instruments that often get overlooked.

This multimedia multi-percussion solo is part of a collaboration between Synced Up Designs, Music Chunks, and composers Mitchell Beck, Matt Moore, Francisco Perez, John Tadlock, and Russell Wharton that focuses on introducing technology and creative compositions to beginning level percussionists. This and the other multimedia etudes are also available to practice on MusicChunks.com under “Concert Etudes with Cinema.”
